“You are what you eat” is an oft-heard expression in today’s society – actually we are what we digest and absorb through our diet and what we are capable of eliminating!

Nutritional therapy works with the body and not against it. It treats the whole person not just a part of it. It helps to improve your health, mental clarity and vitality by re-balancing your body and encouraging it to heal and nourish itself on both an emotional and physical level. Nutritional Therapy is a holistic approach to healing which looks at your family history, lifestyle and diet, in order to identify the underlying reasons for your current problems and symptoms. It uses nutrition, naturopathic techniques and supplementation to improve immunity, elimination and remove stagnation at all levels in the individual. Your nutritional program is tailor-made to suit your individual needs and circumstances as everybody has a different story.

I see clients on a one-to one-basis. First I take a detailed look at your current and past health picture and your diet so that the dietary and naturopathic recommendations I make are tailored specifically for each individual. This will include recommendations on diet, naturopathic techniques and supplements. You may require further consultations to follow up your personalised program where I will monitor and adapt your individual plan as your body begins its process to heal.

You will gain an understanding of your health and learn to become intuitive about how your body works and so learn how to prevent future problems. This is a journey I believe you will find incredibly empowering.

Nutritional healing can help with:

  • allergies
  • asthma
  • poor memory
  • candida
  • depression
  • eczema
  • low energy
  • infertility

  • grief
  • migraines
  • osteoporosis
  • blood sugar imbalance
  • PMS and other hormonal imbalances

After your consultation you will be able to call or e-mail me for any support you may need in following your nutritional programme. A follow up consultation is scheduled for 4-6 weeks after your initial visit when your progress and nutritional programme are reviewed. Further consultations may be recommended depending on your health issues and support required.

Green juice detox

Tomorrow the 20th November I shall begin a 7 day green juice detox; Its something I usually engage in twice a year to clean away the cobwebs so to speak!

Everyone can benefit from green juice fasting.  Regardless of how healthy one’s lifestyle or diet might be, we live in a toxic world.  On a chronic basis, we are all exposed to harmful chemicals in our environment.  Most foods contain pesticides, preservatives and additives that are difficult for the body to process.  Additionally, the air and water supplies of most populated areas are contaminated.  Indiscriminate use of pharmaceuticals and habits like alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, and other drugs push the body into toxic overload.  Other habits on an emotional/psychological level have a similar deleterious effect.  Moreover, the fast-paced multitasking lifestyle that has become the collective norm is extremely taxing on the physiology.

In short, most bodies are being given demands that they cannot sustain.  When our bodies become overloaded, elimination processes slow, overworked organs are unable to finish their respective tasks, and toxins become embedded in our systems.  The results may or may not be apparent to the naked eye, but inevitably lead to diseases and decrease our capacity to function optimally.

The most common symptoms of Toxic Overload Are:

  • low energy/fatigue
  • poor concentration/memory
  • strong food cravings
  • depression
  • digestive problems
  • aches and pains
  • sugar/caffeine/alcohol/drug dependence
  • frequent illnesses
  • excess weight
  • disease
  • premature aging

Juice fasting allows the body to divert the energy normally expended on the digestive process and use it, instead, on the eradication of toxicity, acidity, and other bodily contaminants.

7 Vegetarian Superfoods for Protein

When we think of protein automatically we think animal products. We hear from doctors and nutritionist that we should limit the amount of animal products we consume in order to have a healthy balanced diet. Many of us do not know that there are plenty of vegetarian sources of protein on the market today that are great alternatives.
The popular vegetarian sources of protein that some of us know of are Tofu, Edamame (Soybeans), Beans, Lentil, Nuts and Seeds which are great sources of protein either alone or combined with whole grains. Most of us know that vegetarian sources of protein are better for our health because they are easier to digest which means less strain on our digestive system.
I am sure you have heard of superfoods, these are nutrient dense foods that can assist the body in the metabolism of foods, improve digestion, help aid weight loss and provide an array of vitamins and minerals our body needs to have a healthy immune system. Superfoods can supply a plant based diet such as vegetarian or vegan diet with sources of essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fibre, chlorophyll, and a complete, balanced gluten-free sources of a complete protein.
Here’s a list of seven amazing superfoods. All of the superfoods mentioned are a complete source of protein and some have higher amounts of protein than any animal protein (i.e. Steak= 25% of protein).
1. Chia Seeds - this is a perfect food, containing essential fatty acids, protein, as well as being a soluble fibre.
2. Spirulina-  Highest form of protein found anywhere in the world (70%). This superfood is a great recommendation for those seeking to lose weight and maintaining great health. Use: add a few tablespoons to smoothies and drinks. One ounce contains 16g of protein.
3. Bee Pollen - These granules created by bees from flowering plants is another nutrient dense food that has 5 to 7 times more protein than beef. Other than all the immune supporting properties bee pollen is a great antidote for fighting off allergies, particularly sinusitis and hay fever. Use: Sprinkle on salad, smoothies, and cereal (hot or cold).
4.Wild Blue-Green Algae - This superfood is more of a complete protein (60%) than beef or soy. It is high in many vitamins and minerals which will help your body by providing more energy and improve brain function. Use: Add a few tablespoons to smoothies and drinks.
5. Quinoa - This seed often mistaken for a grain is source of complete protein and is gluten free as well. Use: Replace rice, flour, oatmeal, and make interesting delicious salads.
6. Hemp - Complete source of protein (36%) Hemp is also a rich and balanced source of Omega-3 and Omega-6 including the rare form of GLA (Gamma Linoleic Acid). GLA has been shown to help maintain heart health, healthy cholesterol and blood pressure levels and aid in hormonal balance.
